A first glance at this year's CE Pro 100 might lead an outsider to think custom installation is no longer a cottage industry of entrepreneurs.  For the most part, that conclusion would be wrong, even though some very large companies are now in the business of installing home automation and home theater systems.

When CE Pro 100 was first introduced 14 years ago, the largest company on the list did $5 million in installation revenues.  My how things have changes!  In 2011, there were 35 companies on the list with more than $5 million.

CE Pro 100 Summit Names Advisory Team

The CE Pro 100 Summit has announced the lineup of industry leaders who will steer the program development for this exclusive event,which is open to members of the CE Pro 100 list and like-sized companies in the custom electronics industry.

Integrators will gather to re-evaluate business plans in an evolving market affected by changing consumer behaviors and the arrival of new industry players from November 16-18, 2011 at the InterContinental Miami in Miami, Florida.

CE Pro 100 integrators cite new technologies, business processes and eroding margins as key concerns over next 12 months.

“Winning jobs and getting paid. Communication is the key thing here. If you snooze, you lose on winning jobs. If you don’t stay on top of invoicing and collecting, you will find it very difficult to run your company. In terms of opportunities - energy management, energy-efficient lighting and controls, and alternative energy. Clients are asking for it and we need to deliver it. We got certified to do energy audits in 2010 and will start marketing it in 2011. We have a dedicated team that is just working on lighting upgrades that are now beginning to include lighting controls.”
